Weekend Recap

Happy Monday friends! Kind of chipper around here for a Monday morning but tomorrow is a day off from work and the start of a brand new year so it's hard to be down about those things! This weekend was a welcome back to our regular routine and it was much needed. As great as Christmas was, it's so nice to move on and get life back in order!

Friday night Ryan had a baseball game... he plays indoor ball throughout the winter and even though it's not the same as being on the dirt and real grass of a field, it's baseball in Maine in winter and we're so thankful for it. He's thankful to play, and I'm thankful that he's playing or else he'd drive me insane. He took a much-needed break for a few weeks after baseball this summer and right about two weeks in he was really feeling the itch to get back out there. I'm grateful to have him so passionate about a sport that he loves so much and luckily for me, that sport just happens to be one that I love so much too!

After the game we came home and snuggled up in Emily's room and watched Pippi Longstocking. My sister bought the movie for Emily for Christmas and I think I was more excited about it than her. I loved that movie when I was a kid... I remember staying home from school sick one day and watching that movie over and over again all day long. I can (and do!) still sing the theme song word for word so needless to say, I am pretty pumped about passing the Pippi love onto my kids! We watched the movie until Emily fell asleep, which looked like this...
I'll never understand how such a little girl can take up so much room in a bed! This is the exact same way she slept as a baby so I guess it's natural for her.

Saturday we headed to the next town over to go sledding at Fort Williams... they have some great hills and a gorgeous view so it's the perfect place to go.
All was going well until this happened...
There were a few jumps in the sledding hills which were tons of fun, until they weren't. In that last picture, Ryan came down super hard on his back and hurt himself. Emily also wiped out on that same jump, doing a somersault and hitting her head on the ground. She cried, and I laughed. It was not my most sympathetic moment as a mother but I couldn't help myself... in her dramatic way, she just stood at the bottom of the hill and screamed and cried. I tried to get a picture but as soon as she saw the camera, she threw even more of a fit. Of course I cared that she was hurt, but the dramatics she was pouring on were just over the top and I couldn't help myself. There were two boys standing a few feet away from me and I heard them say "look at that girl's mom, she's just laughing at her"... definitely not my classiest moment but she was funny and I couldn't help myself. After those couple of injuries and over an hour of sledding, the kids were ready to leave. We took the scenic route home and saw this little guy...
Saturday night Ryan had a soccer game which meant that we had to head out in the middle of a storm... bad roads and poor visibility made me a little nervous, but a 9-0 victory made it worth it and we made it home safe and sound.

Sunday? Well, Sunday we never got out of our pj's... it was one of those days and boy did we need it! We made progress in getting the house back together and are all organized for the kids to head back to school later this week. The Christmas tree will come down tomorrow and then we'll officially be done!

Not a very exciting weekend, I know, but it was exactly what we needed after the last few crazy weeks of the holiday rush. I'm rested, and more importantly I'm organized, and ready to take on the new year! Hope you all had a good weekend and Happy New Year's Eve!

Emily is your mini-me! And I love all of your snow pictures, we only got some dust. The picture of the lighthouse looks like a Thomas Kinkade photo.
